A good page-turner of a story, following the investigation into a possible attempt on de Gaulles life.
Set during the 1960's, there's plenty of twists as the search rests on the shoulders of one detective to try and find him, while convincing his superiors that there is a definite threat.

The setting helps in the suspense, as it has to progress with the technology available in the day. Waiting for phone calls, having to make contact with disparate groups of people and for paperwork to be delivered to the right person.

When reading, I had my own mental image of the main characters, but the Jackal always appears as Edward Fox from the movie.
