American Psycho
It's been a long time since I last read this (was reading it regularly when it first came out).Follows Patrick Bateman, rich, young, yuppie as he moves through the world as he sees it, and the reader sees it for how inconsequential it really is.
The violence and workd view given caused a bit of a shock at the time, there is still a question mark over how much of what he says he does is actually real, fantasy or just the result of the amount of drugs he's taking.
The fact that everyone he meets (apart from a close circle of people) mistakes him for someone else, and he is rarely entirely sure who they are, points out how everyone dresses, looks and acts the same way.
Darkly humorous in places, it manages to mix the mundane with the bizarre as he spirals out of control.
