Equal Rites
One of the earlier novels (book 3), and the writing and characters were still fresh and interesting.Also, there was only one footnote in this one.
A wizard passes his staff on to the 8th son of an 8th son...who then turns out to be a girl. Granny Weatherwax helps her to try and get to the male dominated Unseen University to try and be accepted as a wizard.
As with most of the Discworld books, only took a day's commuting to finish, but still had the odd laugh out loud part.
