Journey to the Center of the Earth

Journey to the Center of the Earth - Jules Verne The narrator, Axel, and his uncle Otto Liedenbrock take on a journey to the centre of the earth following the discovery of a cryptic note in an old manuscript.

As a classic, this seems a bit overrated to me. The narrator is an excitable, sometimes whining youth and the uncle is constantly getting worked up and excitable.

Verne manages to push in most of the scientific theories of his day, apparently putting the novel around it as an afterthought.
