Ideal War
The beginning of the Knights of the Inner Sphere (who play a pretty big part in the Twilight of the Clans series).Quite a lot of politics going on, very little 'mech action.
It's a good enough read if you know the background/what will happen later. If you pick it up as a standalone read then you're going to be disappointed.
