Using aerial photographs, shows modern locations with overlays of troop placements for battles from the Roman invasion, up to WWII.Each 2-page spread is accompanied by a concise run down of the sides/people involved, the outcome and consequences. Then there is a more detailed explanation of the battle which references numbered lcoations on the maps.
There's a good selection of periods and places, although the Wars of the Roses seems to get the majority of space.
